This book was created in my color theory class. The assignment was to create a visual narrative surrounding a speculative nation or society, and I created Taiyo. Taiyo, a Japanese word for "sun" is a fully sustainable city built on the remains of San Francisco after a huge earthquake unearths prehistoric megaflora. This book details one researcher's journey to document the growth of this settlement in addition to some of my design process and color theory thinking.
The book I made for Taiyo is a combination of design fiction, traditional collage, and digital manipulation. I was deeply inspired by the solarpunk movement, risograph printing, and the collage work of artists like Hannah Hoch. The full piece can be found in the gallery.
